NUTMEG – THE PLANT

Scientific name: Myristica Fragrans.

Description: This is the fruit of the evergreen tree with the same name, reminiscent of apricot. Origins: Native in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Moluccas.

History: It was brought to Europe in 1512 from the Banda islands by Portuguese sailors. It became quickly famous as a panacea and was widely used ”against everything”!
